Womens’ Fitness: Ladies Should NOT Be Working Out Like ‘Tough Guys’
A few weeks ago I had a new member post a question for me in the private forum of my interactive site (www.BestFitnessAdvice.com) – the one you get free access to when you get started on the ULBHTM program…
Anyway – here’s her question:
Anyway I joined a gym and basically started doing the same thing that everyone else was doing – ya know – the squats with weight, leg presses leg curls, the smith machine, dead lifts – you name it I was doing it…
All the guys told me I was doing the right thing – to work hard and keep pushing…
Well after seven years and hardly any results – I knew I had to try something else… One of the other mother’s from my kids school told me about your lower body program and emailed me the link to
your site – and well, here I am!
I’m starting your leg, butt, hip, thigh and tummy Makeover in the morning – would you advise that I stay away from the ‘men type’ workouts for a while?”
Thanks, Joey
Collette
MY ANSWER TO COLLETTE…
First things first: You are a woman – so there is no need for you to think about working out like a man… Now there are 2 key reasons for this…
1 – most men don’t exercise properly (most of them just don’t publicly admit that they are not quite sure if they are doing the right program – most guys do the ‘monkey see – monkey do’ program) – if you watch them – they all do the same exact stuff – it’s like the blind leading the blind…
2 – a woman’s body is much more delicate and sensitive – and doesn’t react favorably to the strenuous nature of the weights and machines that men “like to do” because they are ‘tough guys’.
Most women – after pounding their bodies for several years with the gym type workout routine – start to get aches and pains that they never had before – these aches and pains are a crystal clear warning sign from your body saying “Hey – please stop beating me up every day – what you’re doing is not helping me – it’s hurting me and I don’t know how much more I can take be before I break down.”
So – yes – stay away from ‘the gym’ – at least for all your lower body work – if you still want to go there for some upper body and some cardio – that’s cool…
OK Collette – keep me posted on your progress,
Joey
So, have YOU ever done ‘the gym thing’ – did it work for you? Did it feel too strenuous? Was the time commitment a bit unrealistic? Did you get any of the aches and pains? …
… and most importantly…
Did you get ALL the results you were hoping you would get?
Let me know – just post your comment below…

yea, i have joined a gym since 3mnths n getting good results .it’s not that strenous …..had a feeling of tiredness initially but now i dont feel like cuming out of gym even after 1hr 45 mins!!
I never did the Gym thing in any serious way, I found that gym arm workouts – using weights etc, gives you shorter fatter muscle, whereas Yoga and swimming make the arm muscles longer and leaner – far more attractive on a woman.
I used to do a combination of cardio and weights, The Firm Workout…It was ok but kinda difficult to follow when on trips or vacations…plus, the endless step exercises and the squats with heavy weights (i used max. 6 lbs) were kinda exhausting…
Now I really wanna switch to your full-body program (the three programs…) but I’m still feeling a bit awkward as I had begun to believe that you cannot achieve consistent fat loss without regularly doing cardio…and I’m really curious about how targeted exercises can be so effective – please don’t regard it as a proof of mistrust, I’ve just heard and read too many things…
Hey Joey…I’m finding myself responding to your site twice in two days now. I just love the fact I’ve discovered you at this point in my life. I’m the one with 90+ lbs to loose by my 50th BD in Sept ‘09. All the while getting healthier & getting that once upon a time sexy butt back.
Anyway, I did the gym thing back in the early ’90’s. I had a guy partner teaching my all the guy things. All the free-weights with the burns at the end. I can brag about the 360 lb squats that made all the men stop what they were doing to watch me. However, my knees ask me daily if the attention I got then was worth the pain they suffer now.
Needless to say, I’m doing all this reading & research to get myself on the best program that will enable me to reach my goal without going back to the gym. God Bless, ~Jan
Hi Ladies…
Miruna – some cardio is good – but not the main ingredient…
Jan – good story – keep at it – and I hope to be a part of your success – YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Keep me posted on your progress,
Joey
Hi Joey,
I haven’t downloaded the ULBHTM yet because I’m really nervous that my thighs will get BIGGER. I played hockey for nearly 15 years and subsequently have these really developed quads, even though it’s been about 10 years since I quit. I build muscle very easily and all of the gym workouts that personal trainers have put me on before have resulted in bigger thighs. Trust me, I don’t have room to spare in my jeans – my pants already look like sausage casings. Can you assure me that the ULBHTM will slim my thighs? I already have a tiny waist and butt. My problem is these gigantic thighs. How in the world do you make smaller muscles?
Please help!
Hi Joey,
Yeah I do the gym thing, it has helped me in so many ways, joined back in “06 wearing a size 14, now wearing a size 8, I have lost 14.5# and the amount of inches is amazing. I also work out at home..but I still have things to improve on, my lower half specifically. It is a battle I will win! Thanks for all you do.
Hi Joey,
Isn’t getting in shape about discipline and consistency along with proper training and eating the right kind of foods? I have seen people men and women both that work out in the gym who are in fantastic shape. What is it that sets your program apart from all the rest? What about pilates? Is it similar to that? Just wondering…. Thanks for your emails, I do appreciate them, and they do have me thinking!!
Dear Joey.

I’ve been weight lifting and doing the cardio at the gym for as long as I can remember and have NEVER received any results in my butt. I’ve done everything including starve myself, I squat and lunge with weight that would make the average guy self conscious am I am exhausted, burnt out and in pain most of the time. I have totally given up that I’ll ever have a nice butt. I never have. I haven’t order the butt program yet due to doubts that it will work. Although I do enjoy the e-mail articals, encouragement, and advice. Maybe one day.
I love weight training. I don’t feel like a man at the gym but a strong woman doing something good for my body. I have started your program and can only get through the mat work, feels good, feel like it s working the right muscles at all times…Is IT ENOUGH? Do I have to do the whole workout?I’m not looking to lose wt, I’m 5′3″ wt is 125 and I’m 42 yrs old. I want to increase my bottom half. My upper body is great, lower half so so. Just want some more oomph to the backside. What should I do?L
