Leg Exercises Also Get the Butt, Hips and Thighs
As the first blog article on this site I though it would only be fitting that I start off with clearing up one of the most misunderstood aspects of enhancing the female leg, butt, hip and thigh area.
I used to find it irritating that women would continuously ask me the same type of question. I’m talking about different women over the course of time - many years actually. Although it had/has several variations of it - the question sounds like this…
“Joey, what can I do for my flabby thighs? Is there an exercise or a certain food?”
Again - there have been and still are MANY variations to this question (the cellulite on my butt, the fat on my hips, is there a toning pill, a butt firming supplement, etc… etc…) - you get my point, right?
Over the last several years my ‘irritation’ from these questions tuned to intrigue, curiosity and motivation. Intrigued to learn why women haven’t found the answer before they found me, curiosity as the what other “possible answers or solutions” already existed that weren’t getting the job done, and motivation to create the right solutions and then find a way to deliver the information to women who are ready to fix their problem areas properly and permanently.
This site is part of the solution. The title, ‘Leg Exercises Also Get the Butt, Hips and Thighs’, is part of my answer to all the women I’ve been helping over the years. See, there really is no ‘one’ exercise that targets a specific muscle in the lower body.
In the anatomy drawing below - we are looking at the back view of the butt and thigh area - with some of the surface muscles ‘removed’ to allow us to see the deeper layers.
In this image of the back part of the thigh and butt - I spotted about 18 separate muscles - and this is at a quick glance - if I took my time - or found a better image I would be able to easily point out more than that. Keep in mind we basically all have these same muscles (men and women) [In future articles I'll talk about how there are so many body types even though we all have the same bio-mechanical 'parts'.]
The quick point I’m trying to make here is that with all these muscles in the lower body - there is no one exercise that can be labeled as a true ‘isolation’ exercise to ’spot reduce’ or to ‘lift the butt’ - however there are exercises that may “seem” like an isolation exercise that does improve a specific ‘problem area’ - but the truth is, a good butt exercise will also work the hips and thighs - a good leg exercise will also work the butt and thighs and a good thigh exercise will also involve the hips, butt and legs.
If I’ve confused you even more than you were before you read this - no worries - I usually have that initial effect on people - but hang in there - as this will all make perfect sense as I help you sort it out in future articles.
Before I sign off - I want to give you some more insight as to why I’m taking the time to write for you. I just did a quick search for the term ‘leg exercises for women’ - as expected one of my sites came up on the first page - but what also came up was some very scary - if not dangerous, websites and articles. Please note that this is only one term, amongst thousands, that women are looking for help under - and the same danger gets carried over to all these other problem areas.
It’s very hard for the average person to decipher good, fitness and nutrition information from misleading, harmful or just plain bad info.
Most of what I saw was completely inappropriate for the average woman who is searching the internet for leg exercise information. I’m simply taking upon myself to help fix this problem - simply because I care.

Dear Joey,
Thank you for the free information. All of the exercises are working better than any other I have ever tried.. very effective.
I am grateful to have found the answers I have been looking for.
Donna
Everything that I read in your web sites and emails makes perfect sense. Although I’ve ran, walked, worked out with weights for years, but not as consistent as I need to be, I always feel like I’ve done something after one of your workouts … Leg, Hip, Butt, Thigh or Abs or Upper Body. Thank you, Joey, for providing the guidance that helps us eliminate those other sources that don’t work.
Awsome information
Hi Joey,
FYI, I own your stretching DVDs. Just what is an RSS feed?
Please excuse my ignorance,
Richard
Dear Joey thanks for pointing me over here I am one of those women who has always had bigger thighs and a bigger butt than most and after 3 kids they got even bigger. I have looked at exercise routines for these areas and had no idea that you cannot spot reduce till a few years back when I got your dvds. Thanks heaps for this information it is a great read and very helpful from Kylee.
Thanks for this info. I like you approach to fitness which doesn’t solely rely on machines and weights.
Any and all information that helps a women with not only her appearence, but her self esteem and confidence , is appreciated. Thank you!
Hey, I will forward this to my wife even though I believe it will suit me as much as her!

Just want to say thanks for the information and different exercises you’ve sent..they have really worked. My bum and thighs are looking fab, after just doing the exercises for a month!
Cheers Joey!!
Incredible! I ordered the dvd because my butt is more on the flat side and I wanted to add some curves to my body. The way that Joey presents these exercises are real. He takes a break right at the momments I need to take a break. He stretches at the momments I need to stretch and I’m a beginner and don’t like working out but I was able to do 15 reps and almost complete the whole work out the first time. I also got used to the fact that it didn’t have music and I used that to my advantage by concentrating on my movements and allowing myself to feel what I’m doing. Joey is compassionate, patient, real and you can tell he’s really passionate about his job. I felt that work out for the next 2 days. I can’t wait to see what I look like in the next 4-6 weeks. Great job Joey.
Joey I think your workouts are great and I love reading all your articles they are always full of interesting information I look forward to getting them keep up the good work

Thanks Joey,
After being morbidly obese for a number of years and losing a significant amount of weight, I was left with lots of flab especially around the thigh and butt area. But sticking with your DVD for about 2 months, I am starting to see changes I never thought I would see. Thank you.

Hey Joey,
U’r DVD is great. I am seeing changes on the ‘problem spot’ areas using your DVD’s. Thanks a ton for information you are providing to all.
Awesome Joey ! Thank you for sharing with us. The pictures of the muscles are worth a million words. Really helps to see just what your working when you can visualize it. Now when I do my Pilates, Cynegery ( tia-chi, pilates and Yoga mixed ) , Yoga and weight lifting I know what I am working . Especially in warrior 1, 2, and 3 position. Your the Man ! Keep up the good work it is much needed.
Joey,
I want to thank you for being such a great person. It is STILL hard for me to believe somebody would give all of this amazing information to desperate people for free. You truly are a wonderful person. Thankyou for everything you have done for me!
Hi Joey
Just like you mention that there isn’t just one exercise to isolate and spot reduce the butt there also isn’t just one miracle food to melt the fat off you. It takes dedication and hard work with exercise and nutrition to be successful.
Great site!

I am thin but developed cellulite at the age of 14. It did not matter that I was in a daily strength training class, a distance runner in track, a varsity soccer player, and a jazz, modern and ballet dancer all at the same time, the problem continued to develop. Years later, I’m still thin (105 to 110 at 5′4″) and exercise daily, but cellulite and stretch marks continue to increase. Hope this works!
You are definitely right about doing a variety of exercises to get the results you want. I have flabby inner thighs and a small butt almost no butt. I’m hoping your program will help build my rear. Here goes ….
Hi Joey,
I just bought your e-,downloadable version of the butt & thighs exercises, great idea, two thumbs up for you, !!! I didn´t think twice when I received your mail, bought it right away and began doing them the next day at the gym, I took my printed sheet with me and really had a great time doing them. Great exercises, challenging enough ( I’ve been using 5 pounds dumbells since the second day, I like to work hard), they´re fun to do and my legs & butt really felt the work!! and my heart also!! great workout Joey, Thanks !!

hi i am 13 and to me weighing 46kg i want to loose some weight off of my thighs i do not want to become anorexic like some other people but just want to slim down alot i have been doin ur 3rd Best Leg,Butt, Hip And Thigh Exercise in the Universe and i am seeing small changes i do it everyday twice morning and afternoon and 15 on each leg.but i want to see bigger changes and i also want this to become a regular thing for me not an every day quick fix. i think the way u support wight issues is great and for someone like me it is actually very nice to hear that there are exscizes for home usage without equipment.i was teased in all my primary years about my legs and surprisingly not about my stomache (abs) i want thinner thighs too show that i am not really that fat and you are right about, that heavy equipment one of my ex-friends has been going to the gym for a year now a 5.00 am and i havent seen any change and we weigh the same.so now that she dosent like me any more it would be nice to show that i am a diferent person and 1 that shows.
The information you provide is always helpful in its own right and sure you gain insightful (basic knowledge) about some things but less of actual sample exericise (rountines) to reach the desired goal. Again, the bottom line is what exercise and how to do the exercise than the knowledge of the muscle target area. It would be of greater assistance to provide examples of the exercise with safety tips for lower injury risks.
Dear Joey
I am excited to see the muscle images that you talking about. I have done research on wikepedia on the various butt muscle as for some reason after I had a hysterectamy my minimus medius muscle collapsed meaning the left and right side of my butt has sagged and fat have accumulated on both sides of my hips making it stand out like two blobs on the side of my lower body. I have signed up to your website and are still abosorbing what your site has to offer as I am reluctant to jump in with both feet because I have bought so much exercise programmes that does not seem to help - but I am glad that I have come accross a trainer that can actually show images of muscles and explain what they are about and where they are on the body instead of someone that uses workout “lingo” and talk about fat reduction and muscle building without showing any images.
Thank you for a great site.

Hi there,
I cannot do squats because they build and front lunges hurt my knees. I have muscular legs already and I like the lean look. I have curves already. Just want to maintain and keep getting harder.
Will your dvd help me?

Joey
Very good information. I love everything you have put out. I just have one question. What do you think about Dream Body that is being advertised on Paid programing? Is it another program that does not work or can it help assist you in losing weight?
Thank you
Mary
