Fat Loss Diet and Fat Loss Pills: The Dark Side…

Fat Loss Diet and Fat Loss Pills: The Dark Side…
When I’m out and about, running errands, grocery shopping, whatever… - I’m always taking a quick inventory of the fat loss diets and pills - that are being marketed to desperate women. Knowing what I know - I can look at these things for what they are - nothing more than a cleverly packaged and marketed “thing”…
See the truth is - if these things really did what they promised - most women would be in the tight and sexy shape they desire - but as you and I know - this is not the case…
If you read the chapter in ‘Fatness to Fitness’ that talks about how these companies can get away with these tactics - you’d understand why it’s all allowed to continue costing womens lots and lots of money for nothing in return…
The reason why I’m writing about this today - is I’ve been getting a LOT of emails inquiring about “diet tricks” or “diet secrets” or “diet pills” that actually work…
Now - When someone asks about a ‘diet pill’ that actually works - they always admit - they want to be able to not exercise - still eat like crap and just take the pill and lose the fat. I can tell you straight up - it doesn’t exist and will never. And anything that’s out there now - carries very gross and health crippling side effects…
That being said there are some things that do help, please notice the key word ‘HELP’ - by no means am I telling you there’s a magic pill out there… - if you are exercising a little (gotta be the right exercises though) and you eat pretty good for what your daily needs require, there are a few things that can help you burn extra fat - and keep it off easier… I’m not gonna get into what those agents are - that story will be covered another day…
OK - in terms of the dieting tricks or secrets… I recently realized that most women don’t really want a nutrition plan per se… what women really want are shortcut tactics and dieting tricks for fat loss that are healthy but do WORK… but of course they want them from someone they trust and know…
A few days ago I was talking about this to a friend of mine, Frank, who spent a lot of time with me in my competition years - these were times when I’d take my body fat from 19.7% down to 4.5% in a matter 7 weeks on average. Frank saw everything I did - every move I made during these weeks of methodical fat loss. He knew that my exercise habits didn’t change - it was all simple tweaks and tricks in how I ate…
In his words, he would say “It’s like you flip a switch and your body fat literally melts away while you’re asleep or something.”
And he was right - but it wasn’t only me… see I had a huge advantage over most of my counterparts - I was an exercise physiology major - and most other bodybuilders or female fitness competitors were in accounting, construction, engineering, journalism, etc…
So the only thing they learned about losing fat was what most everyone in the mainstream world were learning - not very helpful stuff…
But some realized what I knew, and how fast I got my results and asked for help - so I gave it to them - I started sharing my tactics and strategies with some people, mostly women (most guys were too proud to ask for help) that really wanted it and appreciated too… and they’d get the same results - fast fat loss, while maintaining muscle tone - without sacrificing their well-being one bit…
Anyway, Frank says “Why don’t you pull together all of those fat loss tricks and shortcuts you used to use and put them into some kind of easy tutorial that women could learn from quickly and just do?”
I said “I don’t know Frank, some of it can be seen as little radical even though its not, but you know how perception is everything… and besides a lot of the fitness insiders closely guard some of these secrets from the mainstream world - I’m not sure I wanna ruffle any feathers, ya know?”
Some of this is considered ‘Underground’ stuff - because it’s not like the stuff you read in your daily newspaper fitness column, like…
* You need to eat breakfast every day
* You need to follow the food pyramid guidelines
* You be sure to get 5 - 7 servings of veggies daily
No - it’s way different and much more specific than that…
Frank said “Yeah but did you ever ask yourself why this stuff really isn’t taught in the ‘real world’ like to regular people? There’s really no valid reason and somebody will eventually come out with this stuff - and it might as well be you Joey.”
I told Frank he was right - and that I’m gonna do it, what the hell !…
So now as I ponder this - I would like your input and feedback. As I pull together these fat loss tactics and the precise but simple instructions on how to easily follow them - tell me below in the comment form - write as much as you want to - TELL ME YOUR WISHES - be open and honest…
- what your specific needs are - what would be most important to you in a fat loss plan
- what diet or fat loss challenges hinder you the most
- what features would be found in your ideal diet or fat loss plan
- describe the perfect diet (be realistic) and what would be most helpful to you and your lifestyle
- why do you think you have struggled in the past
- what confuses you the most and frustrates you
- what things have you tried that made you feel ripped off and cheated
And feel free to add anything you want to see addressed in your perfect fat loss tool, handbook or program. And remember this is specifically about food/diet - not exercise, not workouts…

If I get home late and just want to pick something up in the kitchen and eat it (no cooking ) what is the best thing to eat?
Hi Joey:
I would like to know how to eat healthy when eating every meal in a restaurant due schedule circumstances. It’s practically impossible to get vegetables in most restaurants, not to mention fruits. Any ideas?
Thank you.
I would love to know exactly how to best get fat loss plus maintaining or adding definition with diet - what when and how. In other words, I eat breakfast then i exercise and then i have lunch but i don’t seem to loose any fat. Should i just have a banana for example and then workout and then have lunch or is it better to eat a good breakfast and then wait for 2 hours for it to digest and then do gym. I think I have the exercise part knowledge under control but I think it is my eating which is out of whack. I do have 2 wholewheat toast in the morning with my coffee but then for the rest of the day I eat very little carbs and mostly vegetables, protein and fruits. Sometimes some dark chocolate.
Dear Joey,
I have been using HCG shots off & on for about 5
yrs. and wondered what your thoughts are on this method of losing fat in the tough areas. (butt & thighs). It just keeps returning once I stop the shots, they’re expensive to keep up for very long.
I guess I’m a lazy dieter, but I’d like some help that isn’t quite so expensive and maybe ultimately bad for me in the long run!
Thanks,
Julia Miller
HI
I really do not know how to eat…I have suffered from a severe eating disorder most of my life…only to end up with a weight problem…i have since stopped this behavior and exercise regularly…but food ans eating i should say how what when to eat is my main problem.
i do cardio on an empty stomache and eat breakfast after wards…maybe that is wrong… so for me i think food and eating is why i cannot reach my goal which now is really about 12 to 15 pounds….
o need to know how to eat to loose and then maintain a healthy life
*Low cow dairy - can have goat’s milk
*little/no wheat/gluten
*easy to shop for at the grocery store
*affordable or at least not that much more expensive than the weekly shopping trip
*easy to prepare
*tastes good - I’m sorry, I enjoy sauces and mayo, etc… am I just out of luck?
*good substitutions - for example the Stevia for artificial sweeteners sub. Artificial or processed things are not good for you but are there companies that focus on more natural substitutes to help bring your calorie/carb count down?
*Metabolife - this stuff made me feel ripped off/cheated. It made me feel like I was on speed and when I went off the pills, you guessed it, gained every pound back plus some.
Thanks Joey. Go UB Bulls!
I struggle with lower body cellulite. I can see muscle tone but the cellulite is still hanging out (literally). I get frustrated trying to count calories and I basically just try to eat healthy when I know I am hungry. I am protein type so I generally try to eat protein anytime I eat. I usually eat 4 times a day. Frustration… I have tried so many “things” out there and after 3-4 months with no real results (and 5 years of trying to lose only 10 lbs of fat), I am ready to give up (except your ultimate lower body exercises and continuing to eat as healthy as possible and still have a life!!!)
I want a LIFE!!!!!
Thanks for your genuine concern for us…
Hi Joey,
I want to purchase your DVD, however, I would like to know if this will help with skinny legs…most women (97%0 are complaining about thick thighs and legs….could you please for once address skinny legs for the other (3%).
Thanks,
Clara
I would love to have a REAL program that works for me. My thighs are flabby and I have cellulite. I am not really heavy but would like to lose fat especially on my thighs. I am unable to do alot of excercises due to an accident and hip replacement.I have thought many times that the only thing to do is lipo or something tha will tighten up and firm your thighs.I did your leg lift program that was sent yesterday, but cannot due a lot of walking or use a treadmill for cardio. I eat healthy, mostly salads,vegetables.fish,chicken,etc. I have tried numerous diets, pills, wraps for legs,Moscow Meltdown. Hollywood Diet.
I have always been very active, first as a professional ballet dancer then fitness instructor, marathon runner and gym rat. My body fat % was low (16%) even after having 4 children. I am now 57, I have Graves Disease which is basically a hyperactive thyroid and have gone through menopause. My weight is lower than ever due to Graves but my bodyfat is way up about 28% or more and no matter how hard I work out with both weights and cardio I can’t seem to gain muscle. My diet is good and I work with a trainer at the gym once a week and even he’s stumped. I am very discouraged as you can see the fat right under my skin…I never had cellulite or whatever it is…I am extremely discouraged and embarrassed of this too thin/over fat body. Can you help, please?
I want to know every detail of how you went from 19.7 to 4.5% body fat in 7 weeks. I can follow the strictest of diets so I’m prepared for anything no matter how radical it is!
Hi Joey,
I have a lot of food allergies (all dairy (allergic to casein), soy products, wheat, red wine, balsamic vinegar, and eggs. I eat a fairly low glycemic diet (no bread, very few starchy vegetables and very little fruit, as all of it makes me put on weight at lightning speed).
I don’t seem to digest animal protein very well and have looked for a protein supplement that doesn’t contain dairy or soy.
I also have severe osteoporosis so have to be very careful what exercises I do. I have very weak muscles and seem to put my back out very easily so this, too, restricts what I can do exercise wise.
I’d like to eat in the proper proportions (protein, carb and fats) but don’t really know how to go about figuring that all out.
I like tasty food, and can’t stay on a restrictive diet if it doesn’t taste good. I seem to prefer everything that is higher in fat eg dark poultry rather than white…
Hope you can help. I’m desperate to loose weight and build strong muscles (and bones).
Thanks so much for all you do for those of us who struggle.
Esther

what I want, and what I can’t seem to make happen:
• speedy fat loss
• permanent fat loss
• fat loss that allows for some (moderate) intake of alcohol
• a workout regimen that has some logic or rationale to it, so that if and when I get bored I can figure out not only what new moves to add, but WHY I would add certain moves.
• Just how much muscle do I need to keep adding to speed my metabolism?? It seems neverending.

Hi Joey
got your book Fatness to fitness and dvd levels 1 and 2 started the exercises. I find difficult to follow the diet list on the book as I live in India AND I l hate cooking I eat quite healthily and exercise regurlarly but the fat around waist belly and a bit around thighs plus arms does not seem to move,,, I am thinking of getting the other book but I have to wait a little. I eat rusks for breakfast for lunch salad and small amount of carbs and evening vegs plus.. I like curd a lot and I drink coffee with sugar. Would love to know exactly what prevents the fat loss in my diet. Is it the sugar or the curd ? I am mostly a vegetarian living in a place where meat and fish are not easily available. Thanks for your caring. Aruna

Hi Joey,
I am a mother of three, and I have this year just started exercising regularly again. ( with many thanks to you. I love not needing to go to the gym to exercise!) Time is a major factor in everyone’s life so please make your food program with it in mind. My diet is fairly good I think. (gotten advice due to a low Iron count) I do take supplements but still feel drained some days. ( menstrual cycle’s a killer for energy) What I would really like, is to know what natural foods and drinks that I can make myself to increase my energy, long term and short term.
It is hard to get motivated when you don’t have much energy.
I would love to see suggestions on selecting the right kind of foods with no guess work. I am not one who wants to worry about counting calories and thinking about how many grams of carbs, proteins and fats I need to eat in a day. Suggestions on how to cut sugar out of your diet without withdrawals would be helpful too.
Clara, I had skinny legs. Now i have well shaped toned legs that are thin and i wear skirts!
* No wheat and dairy would be good.
* vegetarian protein combined foods would be helpful to get full essential AA as an adjunct to lean flesh
* a simple quick reference chart of food, measured simply with the hand and how many calories, that can be put on the fridge.
* whole foods…nothing packaged
* no cook meals
* timing of eating food pre and post workout
* My greatest obsticle……hormone imbalance and adrenal fatigue……weight around the middle only. I had to modify all training programes to minimise adrenal fatigue…read 15 mins only sometimes less. I always exercised 1 hour after food otherwise i could not do resistence work and i did no cardio except that which came through resistance. This has taken years as a healing programme. Please address hormone imbal or decline with menopause. Adrenal fatigue is such a big issue.
* To this day i still do no cardio as such.
So diet is really important here…. Looking forwrd to what you bring out
* Its up to me!!! How will i keep motivated to change and adapt to eat the best possible foods?
Thanks Joey….this is great! I love your support.
Joey,
Great idea, hope you can help. I have had great results eating 6-7 meals, which is a small-portioned meal every 2-3 hours. I eat protein and a carb each meal, plus veggies in at least 2 meals. But sometimes I just don’t want to eat the protein and just get bored with my choices. What would you suggest? I would like to see what kind of plan you have that is laid out day-to-day so that I don’t have to think (or OVERTHINK) about it, about the proper ratio of carbs, protein, and fats. How many portions a day should be grains, how many should be fruits? A meal plan that is BALANCED is key for me. Also, how would the plan change in terms of maintainance versus fat loss? Thanks!!
Great responses everyone - and appreciated too.
There was a question about the ULBHTM program helping build up very skinny legs - the answer is yes - I’ve mentioned that on various parts of the site and some of the support bonuses are specifically for the purpose of helping build up. Although of course most women want some kind of reduction, etc - which is the primary purpose of the program…
Hey Sarah - go UB Bulls! ;-))
Everyone - in terms of the ideal ‘diet’ program - please provide more info - i.e. - would you prefer ongoing monthly coaching calls, trainer check ups, special direct access to me via a private email address or direct emergency phone number?
Let me know your thoughts.
Joey
I have tried a lot of exercise gadgets and none of them work. These gadgets lie cheat and steal the consumer of their hard earned money with no results. My fat lose hinderer is my bellyfat. I struggle with it constantly. I feel part of the problem is stress. I have anxiety and is working on that too. Doing the DVD’s that I have purchased from you are slowly working. My The results are not shown until the bellyfat or fat is lost. Right now I am finding that out from experience. All I want from you Joey is hard core truth and straight facts on eating right and performing the right exercises. Most of my trainers tell me the same thing. Losing bellyfat is 85% diet and 15% exercise. They are absolutely correct. You, Holly and Todd have been very honest about losing fat and exercising in your own unique way. Consistency, patience and time are very important key factors. I have diabetes; that in itself motivates me to get my butt moving and take care of me health wise. I am 51 and people don’t beleive I have a daughter 30 because they say I look late 30’s early 40’s. Couple of people asked me if I had kids when I was 10. I want to live long and be healthy. Keep sending me the straight up facts on Nutrition and Exercise. Lots of love to you and Family. You are the greatest trainer I have ever had.
Miss Mary
Hi Joey,
My specific needs are a food plan without gluten obtained from wheat, oats, barley, or rice (I have celiac disease). I am lactose intolerant (I do use lactaid milk and the pills). I can only tolerate one egg once a week (another allergy).
My main frustration is mostly being out of shape and not being able to get very far on the LBHT. It’s like a muscle fatigue and I literally can’t move anymore! I’m 55, in menopause, using herbal supplements which do help and have about 10 pounds to lose. Keep your tips coming in the emails; they are a great motivator!

Hey Joey,
I need help reducing or stopping late night sweet cravings. I often end up getting dressed at like 11 pm and going to the store to buy something sweet. usually a popsicle or chocolate ice cream. I eat pretty helthy food in general. I have an allergy to preservatives so I have to stick with food that I know are ok for me, because the reaction I have to foods with that preservative is pretty unpleasant. I also have a sensitive stomach at times, and can sometimes have the same reaction to “safe” foods as I do to food with preservatives. So mostly I stick with simeple foods. whole foods including fruit, veg, meat and, living in Japan, a lot of fish. My hope is that in your book you can figure out a way to make some of these simple foods interesting. Put in some delicous recipies for simple whole foods.
Also, I have asthma, so cardio is not that easy for me to do. I do ride my bicycle almost everywhere I go, I wonder if there are any foods out there that may reduce, or help with asthma symptomes. I don’t have severe asthma, it is mostly activity induced, things like sudden strong bursts…so if I have to run for the train or anything like that, it takes quite awhile for my breathing to get back to normal. I have always had this problem, even when I was a skinny little kid, running was something I couldn’t do. I was always the goalie at soccer. (hah) .The doctor said I probably only use about 50 or 60 percent of my lung capacity. As it has always been like this I didn;t really notice any trouble until I gained weight. Catch 22 there, my breathing is worse because I gained weight, and I can’t lose weight effectively because I can’t breathe properly. I know that breathing properly is an important part of being able to lose weight, so anything that can help me improve my breathing would be great.
Weekly or monthly e-mails that addressed any specific diet questions that may come up form people would be helpful. And of course an e-mail address that we could send these questions or issues to would be great.
Hi Joey
I have reached a point where I am truly and disappointedly frustrated. I am not in the least bit happy with my body. I have a vague idea of what I should and should not be eating but like many women out there I feel like I have no control over my cravings! And this for me is the biggest disappointment in myself. I have recently joined the gym and need to start eating healthy to see the results, so in answer to your questions:
The most important things I need in a fat loss plan is that it must be easy to follow and not time consuming. It must be in it’s most simplistic form that you don’t need a degree to decipher!
I find that when following a diet plan it is either too involved that I lose the plot at the thought of preparing a meal or it is the bare minimum food that I feel that I am starving my body and then binge!
Features I need is easy to follow, easily accessable foods that a 5 year old could follow.
I don’t have time to prepare 10 small meals a day so ideally I would be looking for something with 3 main meals like oats in the morning, sandwich at lunch and grilled protein with veg at dinner and 2 or 3 simple snacks.
I have struggled because there was a lack of results or they took too long to see and as mentioned above, time consuming or too little food! And lack of results caused me to simply give in to my cravings.
Confusions is calorie counting - I simply don’t understand it!
Oh and I won’t even start with what I’ve tried and what has not worked, you just need to know that there is lots and lots and more that I’ve tried and I’m tired of trying now!
So, are you able to save me?
Desperate, Carmel
What would be important to me in a fat loss plan : is to loose all the jingle in my body. I wouldn’t say i’m overweight or skinny either. I try to watch what I eat but I always feel like something nice which is the main problem in my life. I have a good shaped body to a certain degeree, but I find that I have love handles that seem like they dont ever want to leave me and not huge but quite big thighs which want literally stick to me forever. I would love to have some fat loss by my hip, thigh and butt area. That is as usual my problem areas probably the same as most woman out there.
What hinders me the most is : I HATE dieting, yet I like to eat healthy food such as veg, fruit and home cooked meals. The problem with eating home cooked is that it takes time to prepare and cook, especially veg. I would love to be able to know quick easy meals to cook at home or grab something from the shops that would be healthy and not feel like i’m cheating with take outs. Plus I am not motivated enough to excercise regularly every day.
Features in my diet/fat loss plan : would be quick meal plans, easy quick fat burnning excercises that you dont have to excercise for at 1 hour to get results. Especially when I hardly have the time to excercise.
Perfect diet : Healthy eating (I dont have a problem with, just easy meals). To have an enjoyable excercise plan. Quick and profitable.
Why i’ve struggled in the past : I love my sweet things way TOO much and excercise is futile because as much as i’ve excercised there have been no profit (probably because i like my sweets). Have to learn to eat slowly and smaller portions.
Confuses/Frustration : The healthy I eat and the exercise i put in doesnt seem to do any justice to my body. Explaining a excercise is too confusing, should explain atlot simpler when explaining on paper. You need to be clear with every movement.
Things I’ve tried : Its not that i’ve tried anything and gotten no results, it’s just that when i’ve bought something I never carry on with it regularly and eventually I stop bothering with it. Maybe because i’m not a person who tries all different things, but i just dont think that will work. I really know its excercise that helps at the end of the day and not what you take. So ultimately I need to excercise regularly and commit myself to it.(I just find excercise boring and unprofitable probably because I dont stick to a diet).
I would love to melt the fat away and get rid of the flab that is left behind after weight loss. This is very hard coming from a woman to a man, but I struggle badly when it comes to my menstral cycle. I cannot control what I eat, my stomach is never full. I personally feel a man can not appreciate what this feels like, but I am still willing to ask for your help. I have been to my doctor, but he clearly does not understand how I feel. You cannot tell someone just don’t eat it, it doesn’t work like that.
Every month my period comes 5 days early, so I have about 2 weeks to diet and loose weight and then it goes all wrong when the PMT starts which lasts for 2 weeks. That’s 2 weeks of solid eating anything until I have that full feeling. Can you help Joey?????
Pt 2, I wanted to add that yes I am guilty of taking diet pills, because of my difficulty dealing with pmt, I had to do something as my weight shot upto 18stone. After having 4 children I never weighed anywhere near that much.
I started taking Diethylpropion 75mg in the morning and 50mg at lunch time. I did loose 3 stone, but still struggled (not as much) when my period was due. I have to stress that I became ill and diagnosed as having IBS, after 3 months of not taking the tablets I tried to take them again, but I couldn’t they gave me Migranes that I felt where killng me. I have to say I am getting severly depressed as I am struggling to loose the weight again, where do I go from here???
As soon as I start with a exercise program all I want to do is eat. Then my portion sizes do not fill me and I feel hungry the whole time. Especially after exercising.
Another problem is, that the week before my menstrual circle I just want to eat the whole time, sweets, chips and food.
I have just spent 3 weeks on a diet from my local gym that aims to get you back to basics for the first 2 weeks and then gradually increase calories as your BMR increases due to increased lean muscle and lower body fat. My results?… lower lean body mass and slightly higher body fat due to not enough calories for the amount of exercise I was doing!!!
Boy, do I feel ripped off. Of course, I KNOW it’s going to take more than 3 weeks, but to feel like I’m going backwards on “good” foods, with a higher bodyfat than when I was just eating as and when…. What the?!
All I want to do is strip some bodyfat. I’m not overweight, but at 46 am finding it harder to lose the fat.
My ideal plan would tell me what to eat and when and in what combinations. Foods should be easy to find, buy and prepare - and being a lazy cook - minimal cooking! Having a young family means family meals are often a bit of a downfall, but we eat fairly healthily.
Would love the opportunity to have regular check-ins, with weight and measurements - and if it’s not “happening” for me I want to be able to ask you why, and what am I doing wrong ?! As you say - often it’s just tweaking - I want to know how to tweak!!
Keep up the great work Joey… Boy - do we ever need more like you!
Debbie - Sydney “Down Under”
hi Joey,
Its wonderful to be asked about our individual battles.
GI foods- should that be a focus while choosing what we eat. For quick and effective fat loss what foods are absolutely no-no and what are the guide lines to follow while making a choice. Natural, veges, fruit…all good. But then even in those groups are there any we need to avoid.
I work all day and by the time I get home I just have no energy to do anything(workout, etc,) I eat properly, have an underactive thyroid, and feel depressed because of my weight. I am 5′2″ and 146lbs. I recently had a hysterectomy at the end of may and have been putting on weight like crazy .My scale reads 36 % body fat. Can you help. I have your leg program and find it hard but great.
Janet
Joey,
I would love to hear all about your techniques, no matter how radical they may be. I have always been thin, am now 39 years old & struggle with problem areas which are the dreaded saddlebags & thickness through my middle. My stomach is flat, but has visually trace amounts of cellulite on them. I am a gym rat & am in rather good shape, but would love to lose 10 pounds & get rid of the problem areas once & for all. Since I do work out, I recently started taking CLA supplements before each meal - hoping that will assist me in building lean muscle. I have food allergies which pretty much force me to eat healthy. I do not consume ANY refined sugar, white flour, white breads or potatoes and I do not eat beef or pork. I just need the extra boost from you to get where I really want to be.
My specific needs in a fat loss plan is no calorie counting (YUCK!). I do better with portion control.
Some fat loss challenges that hinder me the most I guess would be not being satisfied after the meal.
The features found in my ideal diet would be realistic eating. Something that you can do forever, not just for a few weeks.
Honestly I have struggled in the past because I didn’t eat healthy foods. I just wanted the quick fix.
The most confusing thing to me with loosing weight and the proper things to eat is dairy products, mostly cheese. some diets say no dairy and cheese and others say dairy and cheese is good, especially for women. I love cheese but I don’t eat it much because I’m afraid to eat it.
What has helped me the most has been just to eat real foods. No processed food, but I still give in once in a blue moon and I’ll have a handful of potato chips or crackers and cheese…it’s sooo good.
.
Joey,
I would like to say thank you. My body thanks you and my husband thanks you.
I have been using your techniques from your program for a few months now and WOW what a difference it has made in my life. I am 46 yrs. old and I have struggled for 5 years to lose 40 lbs. that I gained after I quit smoking and nothing had worked until I changed my eating lifestyle and used your exercise guidelines. So far , I have lost 22 lbs. Not only has my body started changing for the better, but my attitude/mood/self-confidence is so much better.I love reading your emails and look forward to your next instructions/advise. Some days I may not have as much time to exercise as others, but your methods make me look forward / anxious to do my next workout.
Thanks again
Linda
Hi Joey,
I would like to know how many calories I should be eating to lose body fat. My weight is ok (133 lbs, 5′7″ small frame), I could lose maybe 5 lbs, but I am currently 25% body fat and would like to lose 5-6% without losing too much weight. I prefer meals that are quick and easy to prepare, as I don’t really like to cook.
The other thing I struggle with, once I get into the habit of daily exercise and eating healthier, if an event or vacation comes up, I usually stray from it, then I find it very difficult to get back into the routine. I feel like I get cravings (wonder if this has to do with controlling blood sugar) and I can’t get back to eating healthy again. And when I feel dragged out because of poor eating, I can’t get the energy to get back to the gym. How do I get out of this funk?
Hi Joey.
My whole life I have been fairly active and have basically eaten what ever I wanted. Now that I am in my early 20’s I am noticing I cant do this any more and unfortunatly dont really know much at all about diet and exercise.
For me the perfect diet plan would be fairly simple and easy to stick to. It doesnt have to be quick, as I know that makes it easier for your body to gain weight in the future, but I would like to see gradual results to keep me motivated. My main problem area - you guessed it - My thighs, butt and belly
I would just like some one to teach me what to do, how to do it and that I can talk to often about progress, what works and what doesnt.
Thanks Joey
Hello,
I recently came across a website called pure inside and out that offers a downloadable booke called detox bath wich is suppose to help with cellulite and also claims to shrink fat and help with many health conditions such as acne, muscle sorness, asthma, drug addiction, and the list goes on. All you simply need is water. It’s worth checking out.
Hi Laura - please don’t take offense to this but the only thing taking a bath to with that ‘detox bath’ - is peoples wallets. BEWARE of “too good to be true” scams like this one…
Joey
Hi Joey!
This is such a great idea! Since January of 2006, I’ve lost 60 lbs and went down four pants sizes. I did this mostly by changing the way I eat. I eat only clean foods and I eat about five times a day. I’ve recently started weight training which has helped me lose even more.
I have to say that my biggest struggle, though, is keeping up the habit of eating 5-6 times a day. Busy schedules make this very difficult for many. Food prices are crazy today and I have five other people in my house to feed, so, some days I just can’t eat much. So, what would be most helpful to me, and maybe others out there, would be a specific menu of meals that have calories already counted out so there’s no time consuming counting and planning involved. A few fast no-cook meals/healthy snacks, too. Keep it simple and offer more specialized menues to those with specific needs on a personal level through email communication.
Definitely no processed or refined foods, canned or boxed ingredients, no hydrogenated oils, and maybe allow one cheat day per week where we can have our favorite - not too good for you - food.
IMHO, what’s the biggest scam? Anything that is sold by a company that promises weight/fat loss with no effort!! Many of these so-called pills, shakes and drinks that claim fat reducing properties are nothing but a marketing scam and many have ingredients in them that are VERY unhealthy - some even cause food cravings.
Healthy eating and weight training are not only effective but it’s the one PROVEN way to lose fat, gain muscle and strengthen bones.
Hi Joey,
I would like to lose fat in my thighs…. I am quite happy with the rest… I like my shape… I follow a diet once trying to gain muscles and it is really hard to me to build muscles… I exercise at least 3 times a week, I do 20 mins of low aerobics ( not more than that), I eat every 3/4 hours, I take my protein shake after lifting weights… Do u have any suggestions what I should do to lose fat and build muscles?? I don’t take pills, I am against them. I think we can improve our body working out and eating well….
Hi Joey,
I’m frustrated with the entire package of myself, I’m trying hard, and trying harder to keep the scale from being thrown away!
Will the price of the women’s program book remain $39.95, I would like to purchase this ebook with a check if possible!?
Interesting email from you Joey, thank you it assists me in working through my weight issues!!!
Joey, thank you again, have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Hillary
I need a diet without expensive foods or difficult preparation. I’d be great to get a list of good foods to eat from a cafeteria. (If that’s possible!) I also want to know mind tricks on how to satisfy my sweet tooth with a smaller amount of sugary food.
Oh yeah and fat loss around knees! Can you do calves too?
can u please spend some time and give a good diet program for Indians?its very hard to follow those diet programs being an Indian…
I really need someone to talk to if that would be possible. I am at the point of a nervous breakdown because of trying so hard to achieve fat loss. I bought Mike Geary’s ebook Truth about Abs and have followed it extremely well….no hydrogenated oils….very little high fructose corn syrup….natrual foods…and multi-joint exercises. He is who referred you and your program which seems to be right along the same line. But I have gotten nowhere in fat loss AT ALL! It’s so frustrating to hear that you can reduce your fat % so drastically in just 7 weeks when I can’t seem to get it to even budge in 17 weeks! Please make your tweaks available and known and yourself available to contact and aid in my distress.
What i need is something not boring! i need to see immediate results. that is what keeps me going. give me quick and tastey recipes. I work out five days a week. M-W-F weights and 45 minutes of interval training Tu-Thurs 75 minutes of cardio. My weight is coming off so slowly, I get frustrated and eat ,then regret sets in and I have to start over. I want 30 pounds off in 8 weeks, what can you do for me? Help me please!
Hi Joey,
I’ve been enjoying getting your newsletters now for over a month. Personally, I would like more help with the diet aspect of weight loss. Different ideas for protein in mid morning/afternoon meals or after work out meals. How to find a substitute for sugary treats (my weakness).
I have a hypothyroid problem making it very difficult to lose weight and easy to put it on. I put on weight so fast that I struggle with celluite on my legs, love handles and my upper arms. I’ve never had this as a problem before. Can you add food suggestions, recipes or even daily/weekly grocery lists to your newsletters?
Thanks for keep me informed and educated!
Hi Joey.
I just signed up today and ordered your book.
As far as dieting, I think the aspect of clean eating is especially important to emphasize and while that seems simple to say, it’s not simple to understand when you weren’t brought up to eat that way. It’s also gotten a lot more expensive in the last year to eat cleanly. I think if you explained exactly what it is, what’s allowed and what is not allowed to eat…that would go a long way.
As for cellulite, we need to understand exactly what it is. I’ve heard five different theories on what it is and what causes it. Frankly I think it’s not only a fat storage issue, but a lymphatic issue as well as a poor lower extremity circulation. I never had cellulite before I was in a bad car wreck where my legs were injured. Over the last year it’s just got progressively worse and worse to the point of utter disgust.
Lastly, as I read through the comments I came across a few folks in the same boat I am in. For whatever reason they have a medical concern and are not able to complete some of the exercises. (In my case it’s a knee issue.) Perhaps if there are any other exercises available that can target specific areas but might be a less impacting way of doing it. For example, you have a best butt exercise on your site….anyone with a total knee replacement is not supposed to stress their knees at a 90 degree angle. Perhaps if there’s another exercise that would tone the same area but less stressful. A lot of folks have lower back issues and that might be something to consider as well….less impacting exercises or ways of doing the same exercise but not as straining.
Sorry for the longwinded message. I love your site and can’t wait to get your book. Thanks for being the first that actually cares…
Heather

Joey asked: what your specific needs are - what would be most important to you in a fat loss plan? Something that adheres to my particular needs and knowledge of nutrition. Something that helps me to discover what type of diet my body will truly thrive on.
Joey asked: what diet or fat loss challenges hinder you the most?
My reply: Cravings for sugar and other munchie type snacks.
Joey asked: what features would be found in your ideal diet or fat loss plan?
An easy way to curb cravings for junk foods. Maybe some technique(s) that would truly work.
Joey asked: describe the perfect diet (be realistic) and what would be most helpful to you and your lifestyle?
Avoiding wheat, sweets and white foods.
Lots of veggies and fruit. In fact raw would be ideal but don’t know if I could be truly healthy on it.
Joey asked: why do you think you have struggled in the past? Giving into the strong cravings for sugar and other crap. Not exercising for weeks, months at a time. And sometimes really not caring that much.
Joey asked: what confuses you the most and frustrates you? All the contradicting information from educated professionals on nutrition. Knowing my body needs plenty of protein and wanting so much to be a vegan for ethical reasons. (Yes I eat free range and organic.)
Joey asked: what things have you tried that made you feel ripped off and cheated? I can’t remember names of supps. But while taking them, I’m sure I didn’t clean up my diet thinking it won’t matter too much because the supp will take care of it. I’m aware now though, that supps don’t work. And if I were to take the supp and eat right and exercise of course I’ll see improvement. But it won’t be because of the supp.
